With facebook being dubbed as “crackbook” i thought I would write an article about how facebook and companies like Google are huge privacy invasions. These companies know everything about you. They know your buying habits, your sexual preference, your relationship status, birthday, address, cell phone number, twitter tweets and the list goes on.
Recently, several celebreties have fallen prey to social network hijacking schemes. This is when a hacker either opens a new account pretending to be someone else or simply hacks the password of the victim. Cyber crooks, in their relentless quest to make life miserable for computer users, have figured out how to hijack social networking sites such as Facebook as part of a rip-off scheme.
In a news release this week, the FBI says social networking sites are generally safe. However, the bureau warns Internet users to take precautions against criminals who plant trojan horses and other malware and viruses to steal information, commit fraud, and expose private files.
One popular scam starts with a spam email that infiltrates computer software and steals passwords and other private data. Thieves take over the user’s social networking site as if it were theirs, change its password and then can do whatever it is they would like to do as that person. Sometimes, hackers will the branch out to the Hijackee’s friends and dupe them into downloading a virus. Other malicious viruses may be concealed link or attachments from friends of the hijackee. When downloaded, the hackers can steal personal information. Beware of facebook, while it is fun and convenient, a hacker could be using it to set you up big time.
